KCWC Last day wrap up

Hello there poppits, 

As this little challenge  draws to a close as dose my task of getting more than 7 items sewn ! YAY how did you go ?? Did you give yourself a little challenge that you managed to concur ??

I made up this sweet little dress after seeing this one here and knew i had to make something along those lines. I already had the pattern and had used it a few time already so knew what was involved with the making side. I decided to add in some pipping this time and went for a simple embroidered collar.  Granted the photos aren't top notch but you get the gist of what this dress looks like but 10x better in real life. ( I forgot to take the photos until it was almost dark hence bad photos)    

Pattern:

 Oliver +s Puppet show pattern

Fabric: Cotton linen blend form local craft shop.

Then I made up two more things. First a up-cycled skirt  from a dress with a very bad mud stain .... it was super easy and quick to make so that meant i got to make something else ... 

Then another skirt made from a heavy weigh knit fabric that i pick up at a local market.

Both these skirts were made without the aid of a pattern and were made with things that i already had :) TTFN,

KCWC Day 4 continued

Hello there poppits :)

Hows your day been ... mine has been long what with a snotty and sick little girl and the same little girl that didn't sleep much.

Anyway back to the task at hand, I now I'm a few days out with the posting but i've been getting most of my sewing done at night so can't get a photo till the next day.

I made this cute little top up on friday evening after doing a few Baprons earlier in the day.

This is the second time i've worked with this pattern and i used the same fabric again :) cause it looks just so darn cute ! I can't say i'm a huge fan of doing button wholes at the best of ties but on knit fabric AGHHHHHH  anyway so that i don't have to get 4 oh kish button whole i do two one one side and then just sew the other side together and sew the buttons on top of that sneaky huh :p

KCWC Day 4

Hello Poppits,

This afternoon was packed with catch up sewing , I manage to get 2 baporons done in about  40 minutes ... or less.I stumbled upon the pattern a few weeks back and knew that i wanted to make some up.

I love how they turned out and they use so little fabric I decided to use up some of my special scraps and it was well worth it. I'm thinking about making another in the laminated fabric that i had left over from the rain coat I made the other day!

KCWC days 1,2 and 3

Hello there Poppits,

I hope all is well in your own little worlds....

Monday marked the start if the kcwc(Kids Clothes Week Challenge) over at Elsie Marleys blog,I saw all the lovely clothes that came out of this last year and knew i just had to be in it this time around !!

I've challenged myself to make one item each day ... so far i'm a day out but hoping to catch up tomorrow :) nap time and night sewing anyone ...

 The first day I make E.P a cute little rain coat using oliver +s school days jacket omitting all the lining and vest options. I was expecting this to be a bit tricky to put together with the laminated fabric ( it's 

Sweet Nothings Laminate by Zoe Pearn by the way)  but the hardest part was trying to sew on self-adisive velcro dots ... never ever again don't even think about attempting it just go for the non-adisve stuff unless you want 3+ wrecked  needles.

Next up is  day twos piece of work/ part of day 3 ( short nap times ... dam you !) a sweet little Lola dress made from my got to vintage dress pattern with the addition of a hand drafted peter pan collar. The fabric adds a cute retro vibe and was super cheap $2 a meter on the throw out table YAY and this only used about 1/2 a meter. As this is the third time using this pattern all problems have been ironed out and is super easy to whip up :)

Day 3 and 4 some cute little shorts for next summer made out of some vintage terry fabric. I used Oliver +s puppet show shorts part of the pattern but didn't use the pockets because the fabric gets pretty think when doubled over and i thought the multi way stripes may end to be a wee bit of an eye sore .

we that's all up to date with the Kcwc part things and hopefully i'll be back tomorrow with my next creation YAY

Baby stockings

 Hello Poppits

What's new and interesting for you?

My new favourite thing is so have a nice hot hot water bottle at the bottom of my bed to rest my cost tootsies on...ahhh so nice :)

Any way  to this post, It had been a long time coming as i first made these about 2 months ago... wow that's flown by.

I found the fabbity post and pattern on Made by Rae It's such a quick and simple thing to whip up in 15 minutes if that !

The mushroom stockings are my second pair but I used a different jersey fabric that didn't have a lot of stretch in it so even though I made the pattern bigger it wasn't big enough. Oh well they still look darn cute.

For this pattern to really work you need a pretty stretchy jersey as Rae says in her post. Be sure to pop over and have a look at her blog.

The only thing I changed was the way I put the elastic on the band, I tried they way it said to do so in the tutorial but that didn't work for me, so I just sewed a tube and treaded though enough elastic to fit around Edie's waist. This worked so much better for me :)

These are the first pair I made. I really love the fabric and wish I had more of it to use my I salvaged it from an old bonds singlet of mine, that I had only worn a few times years ago! I was lucky to even be able to get a pair from the fabric as it was a bit on the small size for the pattern but I managed, to fit it on some how.

I don't know how much wear Edie will get out of them as they are already getting over stretched but, who cares they are just so quirky and nifty.

Cot doona/ quilt cover !

Hello Poppits,

Feeling a bit hungry ?? sink your teeth into this spiffy Hungry caterpillar fabric I found. Isn't it a little bit amazing. It's got everything you could every ask from a caterpillar, bright colours food and excitement! It dose have the cute rainbow spots of both edges but it was to wide for my other backing fabric that you'll see in a minute so i'm sad to say I had to chop it off...

But it was for the better good of the project.

   Tada... 

Here is the back/ other side of the cover isn't this side just as wonderful ! I found this vintage hot-air ballon fabric on esty and couldn't go by it. This fabric is a lighter weight than the hungry caterpillar side but who cares... not me thats for sure.The whimsical balloons are sure to most likely to keep Edie entertained instead of asleep... oh well.  

 For the finishing touch I gathered a selection of random buttons to go along the bottom. I'm rather chuffed with this part as I've never machine stitched button holes, it wasn't the perfect job by any means but I'm still happy with the out come. 

Oh so next time maybe I should iron the thing before I take the picture .. 

I'm so happy with how this turned out, but i'm sad to say now it will have to go away until Edie's old enough for a doona. But boy oh boy, will she have fun choosing what side to have it on when she is old enough!

Amy Butler Kimono Pj's Edie style

Hello Poppits,

How's your week been ? everyone looking forward to a nice weekend, filled with lovely quite moments and sips of tea ??? I wish that this wistful sounding weekend was going to be mine but instead mine is most likely to be a bit on the busy side of life! Maybe if i'm lucky I might get i minute or two of peaceful rest ??

I made these pj's a few weeks ago and as per usual I'm only just blogging about it now... naughty me

I had seen Amy Butler's Little Stitches for little ones at my local craft shop and then ordered it from the library to see if it was worth while buying. Well let me tell you as soon as I had, had a good look though this lovely book I went straight out a brought a copy! I had seen the Kimono pj's in the book before hand and had set aside this cute Elephant flannel fabric for just this job ! 

 I hit a few problems as per usual when copying a pattern, I tent to just follow my own path when sewing and then when I do go to follow any instructions I get VERY confused .... not fun for anyone let me tell you.

The Pj's are a little big because I went for the 12 month size for Edie just to be on the safe side and seeming she's only just gone 6 months and is still in a size 00 it is safe to say they will fit for a good while. I've taken them up for the time being so they fit a little better, but still need a press stud on the top to prevent minor chest flashing...

 Also I forgot to add the trim into the length of the arms and legs as I wanted to just be all from the same fabric. This isn't a problem atm as the needed to be taken up but when Edie does grow into them I will need to add the trim. Oh well!

But all in all I'm pretty chuffed with how they turned out seeming these where the first time I had made anything like this and it was good to try out a few new techniques! 

Oh any I know the photos aren't too good but all Edie's doing now is rolling and staring to crawl so it's hard to get a good photo where she's still ...

Sewing ... Tap pants if you want to call them that

How's the start to your weekend going?? Hopefully a little nicer than mine has been today! 

And hopefully you don't have a rotten cold like I have that was kindly passed on from Edie to the rest of my family ... not happy campers now let me let you.

now on to the crafty bits and bobs 

I made these shorts just after our christmas trip down to the east coast. I had brought all the doodad before hand though but had just ran out of time to make them before christmas with all the presents that I was making.

I got the idea from seeing a girl in the street with something similar but shorter than these and slightly more flowy. I got the pattern form Etsy and was a cheap buy ( it smelt smokey was the only down flaw) It was a McCalls 5470 pattern and I'm sure that you could find the pattern on the net somewhere!

These shorts are supper dupper comfy and are nice and light weight for summer.  

The fabric was also a score from esty and is supper cute! I had a few issues with the waist so I made a coupe of ties which are very helpful indeed.

I'm going to attempt to make these shorts again at a later date, but this time with a nice lightweight chiffon fabric maybe ??? Also I saw some shorts with a scolloped edge which I thought I would give a try, as well as making them shorter and tighter maybe ???  

Any was I really have enjoyed these ones, I think they might have to become my summer picnic pants because they are what I always don on for our lovely picnics. A BIG pluse they go spiffingly  well with a navy ascot shirt I got from an opp shop one trip !

Baby booties ...

Hello Poppits,

I hope very thing is going tickety boo in your world. I know it is in mine now I have got these little devils done !

You would think that these would be simple as pie to whip up ??? But no, you think wrong. I started these little shoes in early january, thinking that they would be a quick fill in project... I had a few issues though. I get a little frustrated to say the lest when a project doesn't go as planed, it was evident early on that these weren't going as planed. I hadn't made this kind of thing before so I thought that it would be best to follow the interactions for this project. I had been given a copy of Meet me at mikes as a christmas present and used the pattern from that, I'm not one to follow instructions at the best of time so, that could be where I went astray with this project. Following the instructions cause be more confusion than help. Soon after starting the booties, the instructions weren't going as planed and the booties when flying across the living room with a few words following them , this continued thought out the day before I decided to give up ... 

Yes that's right I gave something that I wouldn't do lightly. Until today ... I wouldn't let them beat me so I this time I didn't follow the instructions and they worked out a treat ! They look so cute on Edie and I'm really pleased with how they ended up turing out. 

Now I'm not saying that the Meek me at mikes instructions were bad , I'm just bad a following them and because I have my own way of sewing and cutting corners  most instructions down't work but they never take this long to complete ! 

Seeming Edie was asleep when I was taking photo's of the booties I thought I would share with you this cute one that I took the other day. How cute is she in her vintage rainbow overalls ?? and look can you see her little teeth ?? she has two now :) and her pretty high chair cover in action YAY

Edies New Highchair cover ...

Hello Poppits, How's everything going in your own little world ?

I though I would show you all a little something I wiped up last week in between Edie's naps ( 30-40 minutes if i'm lucky !!)

I Had been flicking through some blogs between night time feeds and had come across a blog (sorry I can't remember where) that had a tutorial on how to make a quilted highchair cover. Now it's a great idea and all, but everyone know that babies and toddlers are messy eater, and how painful it is to send extra time cleaning when you have so many other things to be doing with that time. Any  way I thought why not make it out of oil cloth because then all you have to do is wipe it down when it gets dirty ! Easy peasy.

It's pretty simple to make too all you do is trace all the parts that you need to be covered with oilcloth , cut them out the sew together.

I got this lovely oilcloth from I just love that fabric , It's by : Marimeeko but unfortunately  I got the last two remnants available at this store, but you can also get an eye-boggling rang on Etsy .

The wonderful thing about this project is that it doesn't need every much fabric at all, from memory I ordered 2x 30cm by 50cm but don't quote me on that and then an extra piece that was half a meter but. But the two remnants did the job with easy and I've got fabric left over the make a bib or something along those lines with. YAY !!

The Owl and the pussy cat

Hello little pop pits I know It's been a while but I always so busy at the moment!

I thought I would shear with you  the mobile that I made for Edie before she was born,

I got the idea from  The Crafty Minx book by Kelly Doust. I changes it around a bit to suit what I had in my fabric basket and the way I thought might look good. I found two really nice floral scraps that I used fro the boat and bits and bobs for the rest.

I used different textures and patterns to stimulate her senses and catch the light in different ways. I raided the the button jar and found some really nice vintage one, and lots of different colours!

Edie really loves it, and when we've been away for a few nights and she's put into her cot she gets all happy and screams and laughs at it for ages! I hope you like it as much as Edie and I do.
