Cot doona/ quilt cover !

Hello Poppits,
Feeling a bit hungry ?? sink your teeth into this spiffy Hungry caterpillar fabric I found. Isn't it a little bit amazing. It's got everything you could every ask from a caterpillar, bright colours food and excitement! It dose have the cute rainbow spots of both edges but it was to wide for my other backing fabric that you'll see in a minute so i'm sad to say I had to chop it off...
But it was for the better good of the project.

   Tada...
Here is the back/ other side of the cover isn't this side just as wonderful ! I found this vintage hot-air ballon fabric on esty and couldn't go by it. This fabric is a lighter weight than the hungry caterpillar side but who cares... not me thats for sure. The whimsical balloons are sure to most likely to keep Edie entertained instead of asleep... oh well.

For the finishing touch I gathered a selection of random buttons to go along the bottom. I'm rather chuffed with this part as I've never machine stitched button holes, it wasn't the perfect job by any means but I'm still happy with the out come.

Oh so next time maybe I should iron the thing before I take the picture ..
I'm so happy with how this turned out, but i'm sad to say now it will have to go away until Edie's old enough for a doona. But boy oh boy, will she have fun choosing what side to have it on when she is old enough!

Crinkly Owl teether

Hello Poppits,
How's your daily adventures going ??
I know I haven't done a sewing post for a long time but fear not I have one for you now !
A few months ago I stumbled across this nifty idea on home made by Jill.
It's a really quick and I mean quick sewing whip up. These would be great for a new born present, or just because you thought someone special needed it!
If it was for a baby under 6 months you could try using a very strong black and white pattern which they are very drawn to.

For Edie's I just used bits and pieces that where laying around in the scarp box, I stuffed it with a coupe of layers of plastic form a wipes bag, but on refection they need to be separated to make them really crinkle. For the texture I used a combination of different things such as elastic, ric rac, wool, and a red ribbon. I think what the great thing about this project is that you don't need to go buy anything for it to be able to make it just use whats on hand and make them each individual !

Happy days,

One OF many new projects on my horizons MY Vintage caravan !!!!

Hello Poppits,
How are you on this easter saturday ?
Alls well hopefully, This week has been filled with lots of scrummy cooking with more planed for tomorrow as well, YAY. I'll blog about it all another day though because I'm here to show you my gem that I found.

 Isn't it amazing !
I found it... Oh k well my dad found it in a paddock up in the highlands.

I have no idea how old it is but, I'm guessing 1960s ...1950s maybe ?? I've got a fair bit to redo and I mean a bit.

The roof has very bad water damage, as seen above. So it will need to be fully relined... but at the rate that the builders are going at fitting in this job will be NEVER....
I love the colour scheme of this vibrant tangelo orange colour, but I don't know if i'll stick with it or mix it in with reds and yellows ??

here's more water damage .... aghhhhh

The amazing tap and sink combo ! I love this sink and it's colour soo much .

I'm thinking that I'll make the caravan into a sewing studio/ play room for Edie when she's a bit older/ reading room. I love all these options and will try and work it all together, especially the sewing room so that I can free up our living room.

If you've got any ideas for my little caravan let me know !

Zucchini cake with frosting!

hello Poppits,
What a lovely week we've been having with lots of nice Autumn weather and lovely food !
Here's a little bit of summer for you though ... I made this cake a good while back but had for gotten to pots about it, my bad again!
I stumbled across it on Pinterest yet again... I spend so much time looking on there during night feeds :)
The Recipe was originally meant to be made in a thermomixer but I don't have nor want one of these so I just used my kitchenaid instead. I'm a sucker for cream cheese frosting so I also added it to this cake and it was just the right thing to do in my opinion.
I know some of you may be thinking ewwww zucchini cake with frosting ! What is this girl thinking ! But let me assure you it tastes pretty much like a carrot cake minus the carrot cake, and because zucchini has little flavour once cooked you can hardly notice it.

It was from what I remember a very easy and yummy cake but I think the edges may have been a little dry ??? But other than that It was a moist, nutty, frostingly scrummy cake , that tasted like a carrot cake with out the carrot.

Recipe originally from thermomix-er

Ingredients:
3 eggs
400 g sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
60 g oil
150 g walnuts , plus extra for the icing
600 g zucchini or there abouts grated
375 g Self-raising flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice

Icing:
125g cream cheese, chilled
250g sifted icing sugar
50g butter, at room  temp
walnuts
cinnamon and sugar

Method:
pre- heat over to about 150°C if your oven in fan force, and grease and line the bottom of a large loaf tin.

Beat eggs, sugar, vanilla and oil on medium speed until well combined.
now add in the flour, baking powder, salt and spices and mix until just combined.
Now gently mix in the grated zucchini and walnut and mix though until evenly mixed, then pour mix into your pre-paired tin and cook in the oven for around an hour or until a skewer comes out clean. Leave to set in the tin for 10 minutes and then turn out onto cooling rack.
When the cake is cool to touch ice and decorate with walnuts and the cinnamon and sugar.

Icing:
beat the butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy then mix in the chilled cream cheese am mix on high until nice and light.
You can also add flavours like vanilla, lemon, almond ect to the icing if you want!

eat up !

Rost Veggie filo pie

Hello Poppits,
Hows your day going ??
fancy something yummy and hearty for tea ??
This could be your answer in one. Other than having a nice loaf of bread and some relish on the side.

My brother found the recipe and made it for tea one night for us which was truly lovely seeming as I do a lot of the cooking, and it was nice to have a night off .
I'm not to sure what the recipe consist of but i'll have a little bit of a guess ... from memory.
It had a lovely selection of roast veggies such as potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, capsicum, parsnip, garlic ect.. basically anything you want then you add in some wilted spinach say 400g and a block of fetta crumbled and mix it all though.

For the filo part I think it was about 4-6 layers of pastry, spraying with oil and putting salt and pepper to taste for each layer. And then for the Top probably 4 layers doing the same as above ?
Next grease a 24cm sprigform pan and build up the pastry up the sides and base of the tin , pour in the filling and then top with more filo, wipe the top with melted butter and sprinkle with sumac   and some dukkah. Bake for 20 minutes ish until golden.

Happy days and enjoy !

A lovely day picnicking ....

Hello Poppits,
have you been on a good picnic lately ??
Well yet again I've been packing up my lovely very old vintage picnic hamper, filled with some yummy goodies.
It was for Romi's birthday this time, lucky for me she choses to go to my favourite picnic place... wychwood! It's gardens are pretty darn lovely and very relaxing which I love.

How cool is the old ochard gate ?? I would love to have them scattered about my garden. And yet again Edie is sleeping ... like last time.
Hope you had a relaxing time looking at our fun.
