Little Vintage Edie style ...+ 9 months old

Why Hello Poppits,
The weeks are just flying by of late... it seems like only yesterday that I was writing last weeks post and now it's time to link up with Hart + Sew again as well as small style over at Mama loves Papa YAY

This week has been felly full on, with a trip up to our ski lodge that we have shares in to check our gear for the up coming season( the trip warrants a whole post for it's self.... maybe tomorrow hmmmm) with some yummy cooking thrown in there, a winter jacket for me finished off and LOTS of disturbed nights on Edie's behalf.

In all that we managed to get some photos take( well my sister did :) thanks, Romi) Oh and Edie turned 9 months old today yay :)

This little romper was a nice rare find at a local op shop I scored it for 50 cents from memory(lack of sleep so I could be wrong) It was missing a button which was easily fixed, the big problem was finding a button I liked. This romper is a truly 80/90s baby look and is very different from what I would buy online but i'm super glade I got it, it's just so aghh what's the word cute/fun.

I'm really in love with this last photo, I only just saw it before I uploaded this post but thought it was very  un-Edie at the moment seeming she's always either crawling or pulling herself up on everything and everyone. But that said it is also show the other side of her and  how she is always taking every little bit of the world and what she sees in.
Romper: Thrifted
long sleeves: Best and lest

Chocolate Custard Pie

Hello Poppits,
This was an amazing combination find of mine.
So if you in need of a slight need of a chocolate fix you'll find it here, that's for sure.

I had left over chocolate custard form the Brooklyn blackout Peanut butter  cake combo that I made for my brothers birthday at the end of April.
I left the custard in the fridge for about a week trying to work out what I could do with a whole heap of custard, some of it went into hot cross bun, by the spoon and pretty much every other way you can think.

I had been talking about making this for a few days before I got around to making it so it was much anticipated. And Boy did it do the job . It was not overly rich with the chocolate and the biscuit crumb base complimented the textures .
Finely I toped it off with some grated white chocolate to contrast the darkness of the chocolate custard.

Recipe:

Biscuit base:
1 pack of milk coffee biscuits or any other that you like wizzed into a crumb
100g of butter melted

Chocolate Custard: For a full batch ( It's pretty massive )( recipe from humming bird bakery)

500g cater sugar
1 tbs Golden syrup
125g cocoa sifted
200g corn flour , Sifted
85g butter, cuber
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For the base mix together the two ingredients and then press into a pie pan. Put into the fridge and leave to set until needed.

Custard:

Put the sugar, golden syrup, cocoa and 600ml of water into a large saucepan and bring to the boil, over a medium heat . Stirring  to make sure it doesn't catch on the bottom.
Mix 120-200mls of water with the corn flour whisking briskly whilst adding the water. The mixture should be a glue consistency, add more water if needed but don't go past 250mls of water.
Gradually mix into the cocoa mixture in the pan over a low heat, bring back to the boil whisking constantly. Do this until you have a thick mixture, being careful not to let it catch on the bottom of the pan. Remove from the heat and mix in the butter and vanilla until melted then cover with glad wrap and put in the fridge until luke warm.

Now pour the the custard into the curst and leave to  cool before eating it. Top with white chocolate shavings.

Now you only need about half of this custard if that so you'll need to either half the recipe or just eat the rest... I know what I would do.

Enjoy !

bits and bobs for other people

Hello Poppits,
Hows your week been , filled with lots of achievements I dearly hope :)

I'm starting a new section in my blog about things that I've made for people other than Edie or I. Mainly these people will be my sister  and my mother but sometimes there could be a surprise in there.
It's not going to be a super regular( as in weekly) post. But I felt it needed it's own topic.
And Away  we go ....

I made this Amour skirt for Romi towards the end of last year and had never gotten around to blogging about it so I thought this would be a grate place to start.
The pattern came from the  Make it perfect Book that was released at the end of last year. This was a lovely simple skirt to sew and was a great project the introduced me into to realm of zippers... I know a lot of you out there aren't big fans of them but I find them really quite nice and easy to deal with, I only had one problem and that was to put the zip to low.... Oh well that's what skirt slides are for. The pattern actually called for press studs??? I think or was it Hook and Eyes. Any way I used what it said but since then have discovered skirt slides and they work so much better and leave a smoother finish to the garment.

It had been awhile since I had sewn any major clothing piece as I had been more in the flow of cooking at the time and not so much sewing. I really enjoyed making this Skirt and would make it again in a flash.

Romi picked out the fabric she wanted it to be made out of and she did a lovely job doing so, My only complaint is that she is a bit like a young child who choses a fabric they like but then never seems to want to wear it once it's made. At lest she's not going to out grow it like a toddler would, so it will get some wear at some point.

Hope you enjoyed this first post of Bits and Bobs for other people.

Little Vintage Edie style ...

Hello Poppits,
How have you been made anything fancy or scrummy lately??
Just today I made some very nice Queen cakes but that's for another day.
Because it's that time of week again where we link up with Hart+Sew for a little bit of vintage and Small style over at Mama loves papa.
We had been out for a mothers group catch up and Edie had fallen asleep on the way home in the car so by the time she had woken up the light was beginning to fade meaning a lot of the photo came out blurry and on top of that Edie yet again thought it would be fabulous to try and crawl off the veranda. Oh boy ....
Probably in the last fortnight she has really begun to start to pull her self up on everything ... and I mean everything. I left the room yesterday to get her shoes and came back to find her standing up at the window and looking out!
All that said I love watching her develop and the looks on her face when she achieves what she was trying to do.

I got this little dress from a shop on Esty a few weeks ago and didn't like the sleeves so off they came.
I think it makes the dress so much sweeter. Below the picture from the shop that I brought it from and how it looked before with the sleeves.

Baby stockings

 Hello Poppits
What's new and interesting for you?
My new favourite thing is so have a nice hot hot water bottle at the bottom of my bed to rest my cost tootsies on...ahhh so nice :)

Any way  to this post, It had been a long time coming as i first made these about 2 months ago... wow that's flown by.
I found the fabbity post and pattern on Made by Rae It's such a quick and simple thing to whip up in 15 minutes if that !
The mushroom stockings are my second pair but I used a different jersey fabric that didn't have a lot of stretch in it so even though I made the pattern bigger it wasn't big enough. Oh well they still look darn cute.
For this pattern to really work you need a pretty stretchy jersey as Rae says in her post. Be sure to pop over and have a look at her blog.
The only thing I changed was the way I put the elastic on the band, I tried they way it said to do so in the tutorial but that didn't work for me, so I just sewed a tube and treaded though enough elastic to fit around Edie's waist. This worked so much better for me :)

These are the first pair I made. I really love the fabric and wish I had more of it to use my I salvaged it from an old bonds singlet of mine, that I had only worn a few times years ago! I was lucky to even be able to get a pair from the fabric as it was a bit on the small size for the pattern but I managed, to fit it on some how.
I don't know how much wear Edie will get out of them as they are already getting over stretched but, who cares they are just so quirky and nifty.

Little Vintage Edie style ...

Hello Poppits,
It's that time of week again already, to share with you a little bit of what Edie has lurking  in her cupboard, and to link up with the fabbity blog that goes by the name of Hart+Sew .

You might be thinking to yourself's wow these pictures are a wee bit dodge and I agree with you totally but Edie ,wasn't in much of a mood to have her photo taken and more in the wanting to go crawling frame of mind. I love these pictures despite that though, they few taken to the end of the schools Easter break, meaning we had my brother home for a full 12 days which was really fabbitty. The picture was taken on a lovely sunny  Autumn lunch time whilst I was having a break form re-painting Edie's room( more on that later), hence the bad clothing on me but it's painting who need good clothes then ?

I really love this little dress, It's funny because it's something that I would never go and buy because of the colour (mint green) but if Edie didn't have this little dress she would be missing out on something special.
Edie wearing...
Dress was found in our old baby clothes but had never been worn!
tights kmart
shoes: woolybaby
and Amber necklace

P.s Also pop over to Mama loves Papa where I have also linked up to and look at some more fabbity clothes on cute little people

Peanutbutter choc chip cookie pies ???

Hello Popitts,
How's your evening going ?
I'm writing to you from the suggly land of my bed, where I've just had a nice hot drink and am almost off to bed but thought of this scrummy treat that I made a few weeks back and thought of you.

They are an amazing little discovery that I stumbled across the idea on this nifty blog and knew straight away that they had to be made !
As I thought they were amazing (well my brother and my self thought so... The rest of the family not suck cookie dough fans as us.) The crisp outer shell of the biscuit that has been baked just right, followed by the warm but not cooked cookie dough... what else can be said! Oh plus Ice cream mmmmmm yum!

I used my own cookie recipe that is tried and true, there was even enough dough after 5 of these little treats to make a decent batch of cookies.
Which we ate the following night this time with hot fudge sauce and Ice cream.... This was a better hit with the rest of the family as they are more fond of a cooked biscuit. No picture of this version though sorry :(

All in all this is a must try for any cookie monster ....

A few Easter treats

Hello Poppits,
Have you recovered from your easter teats yet ??
Some how it just felt right to share with you a couple for picture of what we had to snack on over the easter break ...
Nothing too spectacular here, only a milo milestone cake converted into our annul Easter splodge cake!
Covered with mix up m&ms and chocolate icing.
When we baked this cake this year I thought that it was a tad dry but over the days that it  sat waiting to be eaten it became more and more fudgey !
Here's just a few or the 30 Easter buns that we made ( The recipe is a massive one !) We filled these's with home made Almond paste and little squares of dark chocolate ... oh so gooood :) some of us even filled their's with chocolate custard , more on that soon though.

Every thing was so yummy and I loved cooking everything with my family :)

Little Vintage Edie style ...

Hello Poppits ,
It is that time of week again to link up with hart + sews blog and share a wee bit of vintage style with you all ... YIPE

It's Autumn here so that means that the days are slowly but surly beginning to grow colder. So people may fret about not being able to wear summery clothes but not I, I take it in my strid and just put a long sleeved top on underneath and some stockings and hay presto a whole new summers look !
This day was no exception to my new found rule, I had been though Edie's next lot of cloths for her to grow into and found this beauty, that wouldn't be likely to fit her by the time summer comes back around.
I have to say I can't take all the credit for this stylish combo of clothes my sister dressed her this particular day and I think she did a pretty darn good job, you should pot over to her blog and have a look. She dose a grate job at what she does.
